Take a moment to be grateful
Like many in Victoria we’ve been experiencing the really cold nights. Getting up the other morning I found that the horses’ water buckets were frozen and even the hose pipe was blocked due to ice.
As I broke the ice on the buckets, the horses came running up the hill- their breath like small clouds in front of them. I looked out over our frozen property toward Mount Macedon and a weak sun cast a gentle light on the landscape. I stood in silence taking in the scene and I felt an enormous sense of peace and gratitude.
Gratitude involves appreciating the positive aspects of life, no matter how big or small. It’s a practice that can enhance mood, combat anxiety and depression, and promote overall well-being. We know that many of our clients experience gratitude when they work with the horses. Horses are very sensitive to human emotions. Interacting with them, allows people to experience positive emotions and identify hidden strengths- fostering gratitude for the feedback the horses give.
Equally, people develop a powerful connection to the horses, often forming a bond with one of them. Caring for, and working with, the horses boosts self-confidence and a feeling of accomplishment. This again leads to a sense of gratitude.
