Keep your bucket full in stressful times!
There’s several mental health wellbeing models that use the analogy of a leaky bucket.
Think of your personal resilience as a bucket. Basically, we use the positive elements in our
life – relationships, friends, hobbies, personal wellbeing, relaxation to fill the bucket.
However, at the same time the bucket is leaking, eroding that positivity. Relationship
stress, money problems, worries, lack of sleep all deplete our resilience and draw away
from the positivity of our coping strategies.
Many of our clients see working with our horses as a positive ‘bucket filling’ exercise. Our
property with its panoramic views, trees and birdlife is a good starting point. The near
silence brings on a sense of peace. It promotes a state of mindfulness and calm. And
then the horses themselves. They have no idea of what’s happening in our crazy world at
the moment, they only know how you act around them. Their response to you will be the
feedback you need to check the ‘resilience level’ in your personal bucket. Our mantra is Stop, Breathe, Connect.
It’s a stressful time for all of us. We’re all experiencing the cost shocks of fuel, power and food. We will all have ups and downs. How will you ensure you keep yourself steady through it all? Well, maybe focus on the positive things you can do to keep your bucket full. Horses can be a useful addition to your personal strategies. And remember- ‘Resilience is like a dance – you may stumble and fall, but you can always get back up and keep moving
to the beat.’
