From The Horse’s Mouth- HALO
We kick off 2024 with the final profile in our series-‘ From the horse’s mouth’- where we profile our herd-one by one and for a bit of fun get them to talk about themselves.
Halo is a 16 year old bay gelding thoroughbred. Over the 3 years he has been with us he has made an incredible impact on many of our clients. Halo is bottom of the pecking order in the herd- a very clear number 4. What clients learn from him is his amazing sense of acceptance. ‘I do get pushed about now and again – but I don’t let it bother me. I’m safe and accepted in the herd and I have my place. I know where the boundaries are and I work within them. I don’t get upset if one of the others moves me off my food- it just means I get to eat theirs! I accept things the way they are. I don’t bear grudges and I don’t carry bitterness around with me. What’s the point? I just get on with it and overall things work out fine’.
One of the key pillars of our work at Hamer Equine Assisted Learning is to help people experience the power of acceptance. When clients see Halo and his reactions, there is often a powerful moment of self- realisation. Actor Michael J .Fox said, ‘Acceptance is the key to everything’. Halo is a wonderful example of this sentiment. He is accepting of his place and role and we can learn a lot from him. He doesn’t spend his days looking back in anger or forward in fear. He lives in the moment, in contact with the others- totally in tune with his surroundings.
