Building on your resilience- Spring is coming.
First off the good news- we’re half way through Winter- and the bad news? We’re halfway through winter.
The last couple of weeks have seen frosty cold mornings with the first job of the day being to break the ice on the horses’ drinking troughs. However, after a chilly start the days have been bright and sunny and the horses have enjoyed having their rugs off and having a roll on the ground.
It’s a good time of year to reflect on how our personal resilience is holding up. As clients work with the horses we are mindful to focus on key resilience themes. Working with the horses helps develop confidence in coping abilities. Mastering horse related tasks reinforces the ‘can do’ attitude. Equally, replacing negative self-talk with positive affirmations often comes from interacting with the horses and the spirit of acceptance that they will demonstrate. It’s important to remind yourself of your strengths and accomplishments and maintain an optimistic outlook.
Finally, at this time of year it’s especially important to prioritize self-care. Take care of your physical and emotional well-being. Being present in the moment with the horses enables clarity of thought and reaction. Focus on what you can control.
As the daffodils start to break out and the bird chatter grows more intense- we can feel hopeful and optimistic that we have worked our way through a Woodend winter once again and Spring will be with us shortly.
