Get Grounded – Stay Grounded.
After just over 4 years of practice we know that the service we provide to clients isn’t just about the use of horses. A group participant the other day commented ‘ being here is like a massage for my senses’. She added’ I feel I’m experiencing this with my whole self’.
There is a simple therapeutic technique called the 5,4,3,2,1 technique that employs all the senses to help people get grounded and stay grounded. What are five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell and one thing you can taste.
Being on the farm, looking at the views, the sensation of touching, stroking, brushing a horse, the feel of the breeze in your hair with the sounds of ‘horsey outbreaths’, birds and wind, the smell of the grass and wattle – it’s no wonder people feel it’s a massage for the senses.
This overall sensory experience gives participants the chance to get their finger off the ‘red button’, to reduce the constant feel of being on edge. Sharing it with one of the horses adds to the experience, because as masters of calm, they encourage you to join them in their peace.
So – give your senses a massage. We’re not sure about the sense of taste- but the coffee and biscuits are excellent.
